The recent Archie versus contest seemed like a good opportunity to blow the dust off of my graphics tablet and have a go cel shading again. I must admit I had a lot of fun colouring this in and playing around with the different effects while getting the shading just right.
I decided to go against drawing a robot, but took the next best route. So this is from Issue 184: Enerjak squaring off against Super Sonic. I love story this scene came from particularly because the lighting changes from day to night over the course of issue 184. In true form I've used the entire pallet to make this as colourful as possible; afterall, Sonic's world is colourful.
I'm pleased with how shiny Enerjak turned out, but I do have regrets. The first would be to draw this at a normal orientation, THEN rotate. I drew all of this at this orientation. I'm still not thinking like a digital artist (and probably never will).
So yeah, hope you like - see you in two years when I next blow the dust off my tablet! =3
I don't know where you get it from mate but this is talent. It seems like I remembered talking about whether you had a family history of artistic talents and you told me no from what I remembered... Only you and Vicky (professional photography) got a share of creative application from what I know so far... Sam likes to draw too but can he class into an almost 'pro level' given the effort he can potentially put in? I reckon he can.
Nevertheless it's great to see friends who can pull out something surprising once in a while, cuz again you don't try on a regular basis but when you put your mind to it you can create something pretty stunning, even for someone like me.
But yes what's beautiful about this is that you kept it nice and simple. You didn't sophisticate the backgrounds to a point where it's confusing to understand what's going on, what you did was present the elements really clearly - i.e. the Master Emerald shining away on the Floating Island, the debris and Chaos in the horizon, and Acorn Kingdom with a microscopic detail of buildings and roads if you look very carefully.
You didn't go for anything too dramatic (because it doesn't have to). It's somewhat balanced and really nice too appreciate speaking from a Sonic fan artist perspective.
I'm sure this will be a top contender amongst other entries, even though there is a massive amount of talent out there, who knows? This might just be the one. All the best Adam! +A for effort and execution. *thumbs up*
You always have the nices comments dude! Glad you like the little touches and detail in the picture; I kinda wanted to make the exploration of the image rewarding if you get what I mean, I like to think there are four stories happening here, which they are; the confrontation being the obvious, the battle on the emerald, the destruction of the eggfleet, and the termoil in mobotropolis. Means a lot you think so much of it though dude - you being the big faymus artist man =3
